Air Fryer Maple Dijon Trout

Sweet, tangy, and packed with flavor, this Air Fryer Maple Dijon Trout is a delightful twist on traditional seafood. The air fryer ensures tender fish with a caramelized glaze for a perfect dinner option.

Ingredients:

For the Trout:

  • 4 trout fillets (about 6 oz each)

  • 2 tablespoons olive oil

  • ½ teaspoon salt

  • ½ teaspoon black pepper

For the Maple Dijon Glaze:

  • 3 tablespoons pure maple syrup

  • 2 tablespoons Dijon mustard

  • 1 teaspoon apple cider vinegar

  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder

  • ½ teaspoon smoked paprika

For Garnish:

  • Fresh thyme or parsley

  • Lemon wedges

Instructions:

1. Prepare the Trout:

  • Rinse the trout fillets and pat them dry thoroughly with paper towels.

  • Brush both sides of the fillets with olive oil and season lightly with salt and pepper.

2. Make the Maple Dijon Glaze:

  • In a small bowl, whisk together maple syrup, Dijon mustard, apple cider vinegar, garlic powder, and smoked paprika until smooth.

3. Preheat the Air Fryer:

  • Preheat your air fryer to 375°F (190°C) for 3-5 minutes.

4. Cook the Trout:

  • Lightly spray the air fryer basket with cooking spray to prevent sticking.

  • Place the trout fillets skin-side down in a single layer in the basket. Cook in batches if necessary.

  • Air fry at 375°F (190°C) for 8-10 minutes, until the fish is tender and flaky.

5. Glaze the Trout:

  • During the last 2 minutes of cooking, brush the maple Dijon glaze generously over the trout fillets to caramelize slightly.

6. Serve:

  • Transfer the trout to a serving plate. Garnish with fresh thyme or parsley and serve with lemon wedges for an extra burst of citrus.

Pro Tips for Success:

  • Thicker Glaze: Brush additional glaze after cooking for an even stronger flavor.

  • Custom Flavors: Add a pinch of cayenne for a sweet-spicy kick or swap thyme for rosemary for a different herbaceous touch.

  • Alternative Fish: This glaze also works well with salmon or cod fillets.

Serving Suggestions:

This sweet and tangy trout pairs beautifully with:

  • Vegetables: Roasted sweet potatoes, steamed broccoli, or sautéed green beans.

  • Grains: Wild rice, quinoa, or creamy mashed potatoes.

  • Salads: A crisp green salad with a citrus vinaigrette or a shaved fennel salad.
