Air Fryer Cajun Spiced Whiting Strips


Spice up your dinner with these Air Fryer Cajun Spiced Whiting Strips. Coated in a bold, smoky seasoning and air-fried to crispy perfection, they’re perfect as an appetizer, snack, or main dish.


Ingredients:

  • 4 whiting fillets (about 5-6 oz each), cut into strips

  • ½ cup all-purpose flour

  • 2 large eggs, beaten

  • 1 cup panko breadcrumbs

  • 1 tablespoon Cajun seasoning (store-bought or homemade)

  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder

  • ½ teaspoon smoked paprika

  • ½ teaspoon salt

  • Cooking spray

  • Lemon wedges, for serving

  • Favorite dipping sauce (optional, e.g., ranch, remoulade, or tartar sauce)



Instructions:


1. Prepare the Whiting:

  • Rinse the whiting fillets and pat them dry thoroughly with paper towels.

  • Cut the fillets into strips, about 1 inch wide.


2. Set Up the Coating Stations:

  • Place the flour in a shallow dish.

  • Beat the eggs in a second shallow dish.

  • In a third dish, mix panko breadcrumbs, Cajun seasoning, garlic powder, smoked paprika, and salt.


3. Coat the Whiting Strips:

  • Dredge each strip in the flour, shaking off excess.

  • Dip into the beaten eggs, ensuring the entire strip is coated.

  • Press into the seasoned breadcrumb mixture, coating both sides evenly.


4. Preheat the Air Fryer:

  • Preheat your air fryer to 400°F (200°C) for 3-5 minutes.


5. Cook the Strips:

  • Lightly spray the air fryer basket with cooking spray to prevent sticking.

  • Place the breaded strips in a single layer in the basket, leaving space between each piece. Cook in batches if needed.

  • Air fry at 400°F (200°C) for 8-10 minutes, flipping halfway through. The strips should be golden brown and crispy.


6. Serve:

  • Remove the Cajun spiced strips from the air fryer and transfer to a serving platter.

  • Serve immediately with lemon wedges and your favorite dipping sauce.



Pro Tips for Success:

  • Extra Crispy: Lightly spray the tops of the coated strips with cooking spray before air frying.

  • Control the Heat: Adjust the spice level by increasing or reducing the Cajun seasoning. Add a pinch of cayenne for extra heat.

  • Alternative Coating: Swap panko breadcrumbs with crushed cornflakes for a crunchier texture.
